The Story

Universal Ignition Switch

If you're building a motorcycle from scratch or vastly reworking a running machine, simplifying the electrical system generally aids in making a bike easier to build, and later it aids in the diagnostic and repair process.

  • Switches come with two keys and lock cylinder retaining hardware
  • These switches have been test-fit to TC Bros. Ignition Switch Tabs for a seamless install
  • Capable of handling the heaviest amp draws motorcycles can produce (usually the starter)
  • Three-position switch is imported; four- and five-position switches are made in USA
  • Non-ferrous terminals include hardware to accept common ring terminals

And of course, the primary motivator for many engaged in requiring a motorcycle is dispensing with visual clutter so the bike looks its best. A Moto Iron ignition switch can help you get the clean, custom look you're shooting for.

The three-position switch is a perfect bare-bones option. This on-off-accessory switch is ideal for a kick-only motorcycle with a battery or a later electric start machine fitted with a solenoid bypass. If you're running a magneto with no battery, this switch is the one to select (with the understanding that the accessory position will not function). The body of the switch has a 3/4" body with a flat milled in to prevent unwanted rotation.

The four-position switch has the same features as the three-position, with the addition of an integrated a momentary function beyond the ignition position, making it accessory-off-on-start. This switch, along with the five-position switch covered next, pairs well with motorcycles that have electric starters without a solenoid bypass. The body of this switch also has a 3/4" body with a flat milled in to prevent unwanted rotation.

The five-position switch takes this one step further by adding another momentary switch position—the key has the same positions as above, plus it can be depressed for an additional function. This additional circuit can be useful for a horn or for momentary high-beam use (flash-to-pass). This switch is also a marine-style switch, making it rather waterproof. Its upgraded resistance to the elements come from features like the glass-impregnated polymer housing, stainless steel terminals, special weatherproofing seal and switch drain hole. The body of this switch has a 13/16" body with a flat milled in to prevent unwanted rotation.

Regardless of your motorcycle's wiring needs, all these switches can handle the job easily if the correct switch is chosen. Keep your bike's wiring tidy and neat with these dedicated multifunction switches and take the guesswork out of custom wiring.
